Biomedical waste is highly hazardous which can give birth to serious diseases that may be lethal; therefore it is a problem of global nature. In response, the RPHL, in collaboration with Defensive Threat Reduction Agency through Sandia National Laboratories, conducted the Biological Waste Disposal Train-the-Trainer Workshop
Participated by 11 representatives from relevant ministries/organizations responsible for public health laboratories, animal health laboratories, environmental health laboratories and partners in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, and Thailand, the workshop aims to develop a sustainable waste management training program for the Indo-Pacific Regional Public Health Network by developing a strong cohort of instructors to teach and deliver waste management training in RPHL network institutions across Southeast Asia.
RPHL Secretariat and RPHL Network from Thailand, led by Miss Jintana Sriwongsa, Regional Program Director, also participated as part of the peer-to-peer technical support initiated by the Regional Public Health Laboratory (RPHL) Network.
Teaching the course is being reinforced during this workshop as participants will be tasked to deliver the course to new students at the upcoming RPHL Network Annual Forum in Siem Reap, Cambodia on 11-13 February 2025.
It is expected that the Train-the-Biological Waste Disposal Trainer approach will provide a pathway to sustainability for safe and secure waste management.
